I'm totally disappointed that in the past few year they pussified DD to where he's nothing more than cannon fodder for the bad writers (Jeph Loeb) and the current ones who write Superman now. Anyone agree?

Why is Doomsday such a pansy nowadays?? |

When I first read the Death of Superman, I thought Doomsday was an ok villian at best withnothing to go for him except that He was powerful enough to kill Superman. But when Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey came out I was blown away by everything in that story, Superman's portrayal was on point, the overall story was well done, and it took a plot device of a villain and gave him LOTS of substance and appeal, and a cool backstory. From them on I was a Doomsday fan, he was one of the best new Villains (along with Hank Henshaw: the Cyborg). DD turn from a plot device to a force of nature in H/P. Plus making him that nasty in the story they also gave him an awesome death, by sending him to the end of time, It left me wondering of DD could come back from that. Doomsday Wars was also a pretty good story for Doomsday, but not as good as H/P.

I haven't read any new stuff. I have all the stuff you mentioned except Doomsday wars. Hunter/prey is awesome. I also like Henshaw. A great villain.
I'm sadenned to hear they are pussing him out - but not suprised. have Superman and Lois adopted any kids yet? The last graphic novel I read was where Supes changes his suit to that ghastly electrical thing "for the new millenium" I gave up after that. ![]() Keeping the British end up... |

That storyline wasn't all that bad. Personally I would have like to have seen the storyline run it's course that it was supposed to run. They were gonna change Supes back ya know. I thought it was a good risk. As for DD read OWAW, I was fuming at what they did, a minor nitpick DD doesn't have a skeleton!!!! It only get worse from then on.

Jeph Loeb is a bad writer? ermmm....
Anyway, I never read OWAW or Doomsday Wars, I'm a bit behind on my Supes books right now. Personally, I always thought Doomsday was cool, but after the Hunter/Prey thing they shoulda just left him behind. A character like that loses impact after being used too many times. |

Didn't they have some new villain knock out Doomsday with one punch? If so, that pisses me off. Here's a character that Jurgens and the rest worked their asses off to make a legit threat to Superman. We bought it. Some didn't like him, but we all accepted him as an addition to the rogue's gallery. Then some new jackass writer kills the character dead in one panel just to get over some new villain that'll be forgotten in a week. Assholes. I liked Doomsday too...

Quote:Well none of his story are too impressive, they don't really conform with continuity and I don't really like how he brought back some of the silly precrisis aspects and characters, esp. Krypto. |

Quote:Yeah all to true. Imperiex was a bad villain. OWAW could have used DD way more effectively, and also could have used Hank Henshaw even more so. Plus a minor nitpick when Imperiex "killed" Doomsday it left a skeleton, when in fact Hunter/Prey establised that DD doesn't have one. Now thats bad writing. |

I repeat, he never should have come back after Hunter/Prey. I'm one of the people who LOVED the Death/Return storyline, and really, something as powerful as Doomsday well...they shoulda just left well enough alone after that.

Gotta agree with Valentine on this one. DC overrused him a lot, I feel. When you take a character and expose him that much, you have to either modify him, give him depth, or run the risk of making him annoying (Wolverine, anyone?). DC just sort of went to the Doomsday well one too many times.
And for the record, I really, REALLY don't feel that Jeph Loeb is a bad writer. He and Tim Sale gave the world "Superman for all Seasons" and that is in my opinion, the best Superman story ever. |
