rest easy JLA has stopped sucking |

I just picked up the new JLA. After a few dissapointing months with some gay ass space monkey and the shittiest art I've seen in a comic book in my entire life I can assure everyone that JLA is good again. I'm not saying it's the best read out there but it is definitely better than the crap they produced leading up to now. Byrne and Ordway team up in a neat story arc about vampires.

Rex...my friend...I found that issue to be unreadably bad. The ONLY thing I like is the Ordway/Byrne art. (GOD, I miss Ordway!) I haven't read anything leading up to it, so I have no frame of reference for how bad the book has been, though.
But seriously...as soon as Supes got bitten by a vampire, I'm like "I'm out." And not to be a heretic but... Chris Claremont sucks. He's always sucked. His stories are great, but his execution, pacing, and dialogue are TERRIBLE. And in these days of Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison, Brian Bendis...he looks like even more of a dinosaur. He's like Yes in the era of The Ramones. I may pick up the rest of the run in the hopes it'll get better...but...I doubt it will. But God in heaven do I love the way Ordway and Byrne draw Superman and Batman... __________________

Ordway's Superman is probably the most Americana of all the artists I've seen.

What does Ordway's Supes look like? I don't pay much attention to who drew most of my comics, unless I really like the artwork. I just read 'League of One' with the dragon, and hated the artwork. Supes looked very feminine, and that is so wrong.

Ordway did the entire first like, 5 years of Adventures Of Superman. Basically from 86-91 or so was all him. And it's just...classic Supes.
In fact, I'll go out on a limb and say that the Ordway and Marv Wolfman (writing) issues of Adventures Of Superman were the single greatest long-term creative run in the history of the Superman books in terms of storytelling, character development, and of course, Ordway's art. __________________

I didn't even bother with the 2nd issue.
I'm a heretic. I think Claremont sucks. He's like the George Lucas of comics. BRILLIANT, sweeping, epic stories, feasts for the eyes and ears, wonderful characters....who spout HORRIBLE overwritten dialogue. A shadow of what he was 20-25 years ago. __________________
